ABOUT

Joyce Phelps is an artist, who, from a early age, was afflicted with the inability to stop creating. As such, she has gone on to manifest the images from her wildest imaginations.  Her digital and traditional works involve a strong sense of movement and liveliness, which is informed by the inclusion of intricate compositions and vibrant colors. The style of her works is a reflection of her inherent fascination with media such as cartoons and comics. She gravitates towards expressive portraiture, and aims to use exaggeration of expression to heighten interest within her work. Her work explores such avenues as the fantastical and supernatural while combining them with her personal experience to spin fictional narratives.  She is currently completing her BFA in drawing at George Mason University and resides in Reston, Virginia.
